Tuesday marked the final deadline for my accounting final, and I managed to finish it early in the morning after waking up at 6 am. The relief was immediate, and the rest of the day felt calm and relaxing. After wrapping up my work, I headed home around 4 pm and started packing for my upcoming trip to San Francisco. Packing went smoothly, thanks to my trusty Mercedes Mickey Mouse suitcase. She’s more than just luggage—she’s a part of my journey and memories.

The Story Behind the Suitcase

Mercedes Mickey Mouse wasn’t just any suitcase. She carried stories and moments that meant a lot to me. I’m traveling to San Francisco to meet my longtime friend Solomon. We’ve known each other for 26 years, having first connected in a Yahoo chat room when he was stationed in Iraq. Over the years, our friendship grew stronger despite the distance.

Mercedes even had a chance to meet Solomon before she passed away. She gave him a look that said, “Mom, he’s a nice guy.” That moment still warms my heart. It’s like she gave her approval, and I carry that with me as I prepare for this trip.

Unexpected Moments and Memories

While on the phone with Solomon recently, Mercedes tried to help me get a date with a guy at a gas pump. It was a funny and unexpected moment that reminded me how much she was part of my life’s adventures. I’m excited to finally meet Solomon in person this Tuesday, just two days away. It feels like a reunion of not just two friends but of shared history and memories.

Packing Tips for a Stress-Free Trip

Packing can often be stressful, but I found a few ways to make it easier:

  • Start early: I began packing the day before my trip, which helped avoid a last-minute rush.

  • Use a familiar suitcase: My Mercedes Mickey Mouse suitcase is not only sentimental but practical. Knowing where everything fits makes packing faster.

  • Make a checklist: I wrote down essentials to avoid forgetting anything important.

  • Pack versatile clothing: Choosing items that mix and match reduces the number of pieces needed.

  • Leave room for souvenirs: I made sure to leave some space for anything I might pick up in San Francisco.

These simple steps helped me pack quickly and efficiently, allowing me to focus on the excitement ahead.

Looking Forward to San Francisco

San Francisco is a city full of energy and stories, and I’m eager to explore it with Solomon. Meeting someone you’ve known for decades but never met in person adds a special layer to the trip. It’s a chance to create new memories while honoring the past.

I also carry Mercedes’s spirit with me. She was my loyal companion and best friend, and though she’s no longer here, I feel her presence. She loved her mom deeply, and I was lucky to be her “poor bestie.” This trip is as much about friendship and memories as it is about adventure.

Final Thoughts on Friendship and Travel

Travel often brings new experiences, but it also reminds us of the people who shape our lives. My San Francisco trip is a tribute to a friendship that has lasted over two decades and to the memories that keep loved ones close, even when they’re gone.
